Restoring Youthful Vision - James Wolffsohn Hood Lecture
Title: Restoring Youthful Vision
Abstract
Presbyopia, resulting from the age related decline in accommodation, is one of the first signs of ageing most people experience. It causes frustration and a reduction in quality of life, but can also impact the ability to work, especially in areas with limited eye care. A new consensus report will clarify the definition of presbyopia, and related optical and visual terminology. Conducting techniques for evaluation, ranging from subjective defocus curves to objective measurement of eye focus, will be described to inform the ‘diagnosis’. Management options to ameliorate the visual effects of presbyopia include spectacle and contact lenses, as well as corneal, scleral, intraocular lens and pharmaceutical techniques.
